Meet the Makers: Des Moines Wanderers FC

In the spring of 2018, alongside our partnering artist Lane Martin, we teamed up with a group of people who wanted to bring a new FC to the Des Moines area.

Run by Ben Brackett, Matt Ream and Sean Holmes, their mission is to build upon and bridge gaps between the existing opportunities and soccer community — while providing local adult soccer players an opportunity to continue their love for the game through meaningful training and games.

Pair that mission with a former collegiate athlete in Ashleigh and an avid FC fan in Lane — we knew we couldn’t pass up an opportunity to dive into a project like this.

After our initial meeting, we kicked things off with a vision board to align expectations and provide some form of groundwork for us to build upon.

Upon receiving feedback, we began the design process for the original name of the FC the “Des Moines River Monks” which drew it’s name from the french meaning of the Des Moines River.

Through the presentation of this initial draft, we collectively began to pull things away to simplify the story and visuals. By stripping things away the Des Moines Wanderers FC was recognized and we presented a second and final round of iterations for their identity and branding package.

Shortly after completing this project, the Des Moines Wanderers FC hit the fields - and we couldn’t be more pumped to see where they take this vision and how they continue to move in the FC community here in Des Moines.

We’re also stocked to host the DMWFC crew at our first Friday Friends event in the store. Click here to learn more about the event.
