DSM Girl Gang Workshop

In this limited spot workshop, we will talk through how to prep your file for silk-screen printing as a group. From there, we will break up into small groups and rotate through two stations: a screen burning station and a printing station.

Screen Burning Station:

Here you will learn the nitty gritty that keeps everything flowing in silk-screen printing. We'll cover the materials and process it takes to make a screen as well as briefly touch on the reclaiming process when you've completed the use of your design. We will have one brave soul from each group go through the burning process from start to finish.

Printing Station:

At the printing station you will learn how to set-up your screen on both a table-top and t-shirt press. We will cover water based vs. plastisol ink and which works best for certain mediums. Additionally you will have the opportunity to print your own shirt and poster. If you would like to print on additional items, please feel free to bring those as well.

Mediums that don't take a silk-screen print as well:

  • Vellum
  • Course Canvas
  • Dry-Fit material (requires a different kind of Plastisol ink)
  • Highly textured material

Additionally, we will have a coloring station for kids where they will be able to color their own screen-printed poster that we will print in advance.  Since we will be breaking up into groups of 5 with only two stations — we ask that those groups who are not participating in the print stations help facilitate the kids activity.

It is encouraged to wear clothing that you are okay with getting dirty. We will have aprons on site, but rogue ink is a known enemy in the printing world.
